About Us

Paper Lantern Books is the brainchild of Samyuktha Nair, an author and professional editor, born in India in 1996. Armed with a master's degree in English Literature and on the lookout for a job during the COVID-19 pandemic, she found work as an editor at a publishing house in early 2020, and there began her journey as an editor and publisher. As she learnt the trade, she realised that she had the potential to run a publishing house of her own, and in January 2021, founded Woolf Press, a small publishing house of her own, financed entirely by her own savings.

Two years and over fifteen books later, Samyuktha decided it was time for an overhaul. She decided to revamp Woolf Press into a traditional publishing house that would provide the best editing, design, and promotional services possible, and would publish not just works in English, but in vernacular Indian languages, too. And so, Paper Lantern Books was born.

Operating in its present avatar since January 2023, Paper Lantern Books accepts fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. We publish books the traditional way, i.e., authors do not have to pay a penny to see their books in print, and work with both experienced authors as well as debut writers.

All submissions are read personally by Samyuktha before selection, and Paper Lantern Books believes in working hand-in-hand with authors to give them the best possible literary experience.

To make a submission, please send a one-page summary, a 500-word author bio, and the first three chapters of your work to paperlanternbooks23@gmail.com.
